Lesson 1.5 Best of Show: What didn't make the cut
Portrait of a Satisfied Gentleman
I was sadly not able to find any information on this painting. This was my favorite dog from the Best of Show set, but since I couldn't find any information on it past that it was in the public domain. Because of this I though it was best to not include it in the graded set. I still wanted to share this work so it's getting it's own post. This dog makes me smile when I see him because he reminds me of my own dog. Ruby always licks her chops after a meal that she likes particularly well. This dog must have also finished something he was liked. The artist is able to get express the character of the dog in this work. He is serene, happy, and full. This could almost be a portrait of a man because of how well emotion is captured in this piece. I hope to learn more about this piece to hopefully find what larger work it is from.
